From India to Canada: The Story of Go Desi

My name is Dhwani, and this is the story of how a love for Indian ethnic wear sparked a fashion revolution for the South Asian community in Canada.

When I immigrated to Canada in 2019, I brought more than just my luggage — I brought my passion for Indian festivals, my love of traditional Indian clothing, and a heart that beat Desi no matter which time zone it was in. There's something magical about dressing up in vibrant ethnic outfits for Diwali, Navratri, Eid, or weddings — it's not just fashion, it's identity.

But Canada had other plans. As I searched for Indian ethnic clothes in Canada, I hit wall after wall. The stores that carried Indian traditional wear were either selling outdated, non-trendy styles, or they were priced so high that celebrating your culture felt like a luxury. There was a glaring gap in the Canadian South Asian fashion market — and I knew I had to fill it.

In November 2024, during a trip back to India, the idea became a mission. I traveled across the country, meeting Indian clothing vendors and manufacturers, hunting for styles that were trendy, affordable, and authentic. I wasn't just looking for cheap ethnic wear — I was looking for pieces I would proudly wear. That became my golden rule: if I wouldn't buy it, I wouldn't sell it.

And so, Go Desi – Made in India was born — a Canadian brand dedicated to bringing stylish, affordable Indian ethnic fashion to women and men across Canada.

We launched with ladies suit sets, and thanks to the overwhelming love from our Desi community in Canada, we quickly expanded our collection to include:
